About Us
Swim Up Hill provides innovative and culturally relevant swim instruction to the 50M low to middle-income people of color in the U.S. and around the world, who don’t know how to swim and are at extreme risk of drowning. We not only save lives, but we also improve lives.
Our Story
Since 2018, Swim Up Hill has provided innovative swim instruction methods to individuals and organizations in the aquatic industry. Paralympian Jamal Hill is the founder and CEO of the Swim Up Hill Foundation. After spending half his life hiding his neurological disability and battling stereotypes about black swimmers, Jamal launched Aquatics Today, to help fill the need for best practices within aquatic spaces by providing online access to national resources. Some of Swim Up Hill’s partners include Speedo, USA Swimming, and the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic & Paralympic Organizing Committee. Jamal recently won a bronze medal in the 50-meter freestyle at the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games.
Swim Up Hill is a nonprofit foundation that provides culturally relevant instruction to the 50 million youths of color in the U.S. and around the world who don’t yet know how to swim. Using the innovative Swim Up Hill method, instructors get most students safely swimming in just a few days.
Because it employs online tutorials and at-home exercises, the Swim Up Hill method is available to aquaphobes throughout the country. The National YMCA and the Red Shield are now implementing our methods and system at community pools across the US.
By replacing fear with confidence, we’re determined to teach a million kids a year to swim by the Paris Olympic Games, set for 2024. Jump in today and help us reach our ambitious goal.
"A Bowl, A Bench, And A Bucket: Learn To Swim In 5 Hours" Is The Training Manual At The Heart Of Our Mission To Teach One Million People To Swim. It's What Truly Sets Us Apart From Other Organizations.
